When I was pregnant, I knew I wanted to breastfeed. I had realistic expectations, though. I knew it might be hard and tiring. It would probably hurt. What I didn’t really think about was if I’d be giving my son the right nutrients.
I didn’t take any vitamins at first because I honestly didn’t think about it. But a few months in, I heard that it’s a good idea to continue taking your prenatal.
Recently, I was introduced to the Morning Pep Prenatal vitamin. It’s a bit different from other prenatals that I’ve tried, and here is how!

Morning Pep Prenatals Contain Probiotics
I’m sure you’ve heard about the benefits of probiotics, right?
Essentially, probiotics are healthy, friendly bacteria. They can aid in digestion as well as immunity. When your baby is a newborn, they don’t have any experience with fighting off infections. Their immune system isn’t particularly strong.
By getting probiotics in your diet (whether while pregnant or while breastfeeding) you can help to strengthen your baby’s immune system. Of course, it will also help strengthen your immune system, and promote gut health!

Morning Pep Prenatals Help with Nausea
I can’t confirm this because I’m not pregnant at the moment. But, Morning Pep claims that its prenatals are formulated to help ease morning sickness.
This vitamin is food-based, which may help. And the probiotics help with nausea as well.
Do you even need more reasons to pick this up?!
Morning Pep Prenatals Boast They are Odorless and Tasteless
This is the claim, at least. In full transparency, I didn’t find this to be true. While they didn’t seem to have much of a taste, they do have a slight odor to them.
It’s nothing horrendous, but when you’re pregnant and your sense of smell is altered, I think it’s important to know.
It’s kind of an earthy-vitamin smell. I’m not sure how to explain it, but it smells the way most vitamins smell (in my experience).
As for the taste, I didn’t detect much of one. I take medications every day and most of them, if they go down funny, leave an awful chemical taste in my mouth. Not pleasant. But, thankfully, that didn’t happen with these.
Morning Pep Prenatals are Easy to Swallow
They come in an oblong shape, which I believe helps make them easier to swallow. I didn’t have any problems, but, again, I do take pills every single morning. So, I’ve never really had issues swallowing pills.
If you struggle with swallowing pills, because they’re long and thin, I think you’ll be okay. They are a bit big, but that doesn’t bother me. I’ve had to take bigger 😛

Morning Pep Prenatals are Super Affordable
As you might know, I don’t have money to spare. I try to be extremely careful with what I buy. As of right now, a four-month supply of these vitamins is only $15.90. That’s just under $4 a month. Crazy, right?!
I love finding good deals on essential items, and for me, these are essential!

Other Ways to Make Breastfeeding Easier
If you’re not in the market for a vitamin, I’ve decided to provide a few other resources.
Hydrate!
This is super important in order to maintain a good supply for your little one. Most sites recommend drinking a full glass each time you nurse. I know when I first started nursing, I drank like it was going out of style. I was perpetually thirsty! I use this water bottle now that my thirst has died down a bit. It’s still a good size, but much more manageable than the 100 oz jug I used to use (I’m serious, and I’d refill it, too!).
Eat a Balanced Diet
Eat a variety of foods each day: fruits, veggies, protein, grains. It’s also important to get enough (healthy) fats. This will help you to provide that fatty hindmilk your baby needs. One thing that has helped me is right after a trip to the store, I portion out some fruits and veggies. This way, I have no excuse not to eat them. I just store them in Tupperware in the fridge. Perfect as a side to your meal, or as a quick snack.
Connect with Other Nursing Moms
There are tons of Facebook groups out there for nursing mamas. Or you can check to see if there is a nearby La Leche League meeting that you could attend. In fact, La Leche League has tons of great info on breastfeeding, so check it out if you need some help.
Get a Nursing Pillow
I use and love my
Boppy. But, there are tons of different options out there! I honestly thought the idea of a nursing pillow was just a ploy to make more money, but it’s not! It’s a total essential!
